A HEALTHIER LUTHANDO KINDER GARDEN
It is important for us at The Beautiful South & West Guesthouses to help, support and develop projects in rural areas. We are not involved in big projects – often just small things that we can see and follow up. Sometimes we try to get some help from our guests as well. Last season with the help of our guests, we could buy much needed chairs, tables and toys for the kids of Luthando Kinder Garden in Kayamandi. It was also the start of a network of people that help with the development of the Kinder Garden. And what a difference their contributions have made!
In January 2008 there was basically nothing for the kids to sit on, eat on and play with. But if you now go to the Kinder Garden on one of Madiba’s township tours, you will see for yourself how far they have come. We are very proud to have guests and friends who care enough to want to make a difference.
For this high season, we’ve started two new exciting projects. While one of these projects still concern the Kinder Garden, the other will focus on supporting the development of Kayamandi’s young soccer players.
Now that the Kinder Garden has lots of new tables, chairs and toys, we are turning our focus to more basic needs. These little guys and girls need energy and good nutrition to grow, play and learn. So, this season we would like to support them with healthy food. We feel that there is a real need for fresh fruits and veggies, but that they are often too shy or uncomfortable to tell us. We are appealing to our guests to help us provide the Kinder garden with fresh fruit and veggies at least once a week. We’ll be buying the fruit form a local farmer and delivering it to the Kinder Garden ourselves. The price for a box of fruit each week is R100.00. Please, all your support is important – it doesn’t matter how much. This way we will help to build a strong and healthy new generation!
Sport can be a very unifying and fun way to uplift and inspire the youth to dream bigger and achieve more.
We have therefore decided to, together with Madiba and Mama Florence; support a Football Club in Kayamandi. This club has about 168 members between the ages of 7 and 27. We would like to support the whole spectrum, from the little guys to the older ones. Every age group needs different things, so we have started looking for partners in different football clubs in Europe. Our goal, ultimately, is to help the Kayamandi Hot Spurs reach the Vodacom Soccer League. But of course we need your support. By supporting our soccer effort, you will not only provide concrete necessities, but you will help create heroes. Sports heroes that will inspire and uplift their local community by showing the little guys that if you can dream it, you can be it!
